As the season draws to a close it has been fantastic fun racing alongside my brother Guy and our extremely fast 3rd driver Tom Pattle in his first full season of racing. Unlike any other championship I had raced in, the grid for the races was done by ballot. All car numbers were put into a hat and pulled out to determine the start position.
Coming away from the first round with a 2nd place trophy highlighted we weren’t just going to sit around at the back, we wanted to win. Snetterton was not as good with a 14th place finish due to a change of radiator needed 40 minutes in, from second place after a pit lane incident.
Brands Hatch was next and we crept up through each stint to take 3rd place ten minutes from the end. A red flag and count back of one lap meant we finished 4th, thanks to the white VW Polo that took to the track!
Donington Park was two races, one of 60 minutes and one of four hours. Sprint races weren’t such a leveller for our team but we finished in 8th place after starting almost last. The four hour race was much more successful, we were leading onto the last lap where the car ran out of fuel at the first corner. The win was so close! Onto Anglesey with another two races where the champions were crowned after their seemless season. We had a stop go penalty combined with a few spins which dropped us down the order but race two we came away with a third place result.
The final round at Oulton Park was on the full circuit and there was 5 potential second place finishers, it was going to be tough! Driving a clean race was crucial and being there at the end was so important. Differing conditions and a few early problems for our rivals left us able to drive our own race and end up coming away with the second place honours. A fantastic season rounded off perfectly! We also recieved the ‘Team of the day’ accolade, a lovely glass trophy for the shelf.
2015 is round the corner and we are not sure what it brings but hopefully there will be news in the coming months
